Working with gowns design by one of my favourite designers is definitely poses a specific challenge: Zac Posen’s designs transformed the aesthetic of the fashion industry, and I knew, that doing justice to the iconic designer, I had to create something simple, sophisticated, but still punchy and potent as a dry martini. Geometry of the body, history of art, dramatic backdrop layering, geometric juxtapositions, all became elements of experimentation.
As a boy – not much older than my own daughter now – I spent some beautiful days with my mother teaching me about artists like Edward Hopper, Georgia O’Keefe and Lyonel Feininger.
Anchored in this classical education, this photoshoot became a sort of tribute to my favourite painters and photographers that make up my visual dictionary. Inspired by modernism, modern dance, film noir, and of course my constant companion in everything I do – music, I decided to give myself unprecedented permission to explore that narrow corridor between fashion and wedding photography.
