Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, also known as Villa Île-de-France, is a French beachfront villa located at Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat on the French Riviera. Between 1905 and 1912, this was the house of Baroness Béatrice de Rothschild. Her final objective was to make the home appear to be a ship at sea, a reminder of a happy childhood spent on ships traveling the Mediterranean.
The Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild features nine spectacular gardens. The French garden is the largest of all and a love temple inspired by the Trianon rises up against a stunning backdrop. The French garden was styled after a ship’s deck and offered beautiful views of the villa’s façade and its spectacular fountains are timed to the rhythms of Strauss’ valses.
The Baroness filled the estate with ancient furniture, Old Master paintings, sculptures, and objets d’art, as well as a large collection of rare porcelain.
This architectural marvel, inspired by the most exquisite palaces of the Italian Renaissance, houses fine porcelains, masterpieces, and exceptional furnishings. The patio was utilized for banquets and is ornamented with pieces from churches and convents.
